Emily Gallagher will share her media experiences ranging from CBS News in Washington D.C. during the 2000 presidential election, which was before reality television and when people tuned in primarily to the nightly news broadcast, in comparison to what is now an environment where news is available 24-hours a day through multi-faceted channels ranging from television to internet to social media. The speed to market for news, accuracy in reporting and fact-checking, social media influence, etc. has changed how people demand and consume the news. She will share how this evolved news environment impacts the built environment, especially when it comes to crisis communications and response.

Every crisis situation brings different nuances, but the principles of managing information during a crisis remain the same, even after the unforeseen events of 2020. Join Emily and fellow industry professionals in talking about crisis response best practices and sharing stories and information to learn from one another.

Emily Gallagher is Vice President, Communications Director for JE Dunn Construction, one of the country’s top domestic general contractors. In her role she leads corporate communications, public relations, social media strategy, and crisis response for JE Dunn’s 24 offices and hundreds of job sites around the country. She has over 20 years of industry experience, the last 10 with JE Dunn; previously she worked for an international digital and brand agency and CBS News Washington Bureau producing Face the Nation. She has handled crisis communications in scenarios such as bomb threats, jobsite fatalities and explosions, active shooter situations, and now even a global pandemic.
