When you think of marketing, you more than likely think of marketing to your customers. In the AEC industry, marketing tends to be very focused on pursuing and winning work, RFP madness, pitches and presentations, and how to “sell” your company to potential clients.
However, another “market” is just as important: your employees, the very people who can make the brand come alive for your customers by creating the beautiful designs, engineering the structures, and constructing the buildings. In our industry, due the critical mission of pursuing and winning work, it’s often times our internal audience that gets left behind. In most AEC firms, it’s the marketers who hold the responsibility of both winning work and tackling internal communications, brand campaigns, and even employee engagement.

Emily Gallagher, Vice President of Communications for JE Dunn Construction Company, has more than 17 years of public and media relations, corporate communications, professional writing, and digital/social media experience in the AEC industry including working with Colliers International and AECOM prior to joining JE Dunn Construction seven years ago. In her role at JE Dunn, she oversees corporate communications, public relations, and digital/social media efforts for all 20 offices. Gallagher has spoken at industry conferences such as SMPS Build Business, SMPS SunBuilt, and over a dozen SMPS local chapter events around the country. She has a passion for grammar, running, travel, champagne, and the Oxford comma.
